Maggie Farrington, working hard for you in Fort McMurray–Cold Lake

Maggie Farrington is currently the CEO of Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, and she resides in Fort McMurray, Alberta with her husband and two children.

In 2012, after years of practicing criminal litigation, she shifted her career on a different trajectory to follow her passion for community development and advocacy, stakeholder relations and working to support Indigenous communities. In the past, Maggie worked at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo as its first Director of Aboriginal and Rural Relations, and then as CEO of the Athabasca Tribal Council.

Maggie is an avid community supporter. She currently serves as the Chair of Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation, and recently served as the Chair of the Keyano College Board of Governors. Maggie was also an elected public director of Colleges and Institutes of Canada from 2017-2019. In the past, she has also served as Vice Chair of the Wood Buffalo Wildfire Recovery Committee and as a Board member for Girls Inc. of Northern Alberta.

Maggie’s educational portfolio includes: Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree, specializing in Ancient Near Eastern Studies and a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto, and Master of Arts Degree in Organizational Leadership, with a concentration in servant leadership from Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA. Maggie is also a certified yoga teacher (500hr), and wrote her yoga teacher training thesis on the intersection of yoga and leadership.
